KITA elects Marn-ki Jeong as the new Vice Chairman

The Korea International Trade Association (Chairman: Christopher Koo) held a Board of Directors meeting on September 21st and elected Marn-ki Jeong, the President & CEO of the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association, as the new Vice Chairman.

Chairman Koo mentioned, “Mr. Jeong is a candidate equipped with a deep understanding on industries and is an expert on trade policies.” Chairman Koo highlighted, “Since he has a rich experience of leading organizations that represent the interest of industries, we believe Mr. Jeong is a suitable candidate since he is well aware of the situation faced by trading businesses on the ground and has the capabilities of engaging with the government in pushing ahead with our projects” as the Chairman explained the background of the recommendation.

In his acceptance speech, the new Vice Chairman mentioned, “As the country is in a challenging situation of handling the depreciation of the currency, high inflation and low growth at the same time, along with lingering economic disruptions triggered by the pandemic, there are mounting concerns over the growing possibility of the country being hit by a complicated mega-crisis.” He expressed his commitment by saying, “I will take full responsibility as the new Vice Chairman by pulling out all the stops to strengthen the foundation and boost the resilience of our trading industry - the backbone that supports the Korean economy.”

Mr. Jeong passed the 27th Higher Civil Service Examination, which became a starting point of entering civil service. He occupied key posts, including the Head of the Office of Industrial Foundation, the Director General for Industry and Trade and the Director General for Trade Policy at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy (currently defunct) and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Energy, thereby being widely known as an expert of industrial and trade policies. The new Vice Chairman also performed duties as the Secretary for Industry, Trade and Resources at the Office of the President and retired from civil service as a Deputy Minister of Industry, Trade and Energy. After his retirement, he was engaged in activities representing the interest of industries as the President of the Korea Industry Alliance Forum and the Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association.
